we were talking about superstitions in class and i was saying how among knitters it's considered bad luck to knit for a significant other too early in the relationship because then there will inevitably be a break up. black cats are internationally bad luck. thus, i suppose, knitting a black cat for someone you fancy is a dumb idea.
so, there was fighting on wednesday night and i got silent treatment from then until saturday when she said yeah, we're still friends and then she moved out.
so....even though it's for the best because it's soooo much less complicated without her! but....yeah, obviously we were never actually together but it still feels like a breakup. and i guess i always feel like this when someone i'm really attached to moves out. i have an epic, epic emotional hangover.
am currently dealing by unravelling the sock yarn and dividing it into 2 equal balls so i can make toe up socks and they will be the same length. i find unravelling yarn very therapeutic....except this big knot i've just run into. i seem to lack the ability to post pictures at the moment, i guess that's alright.
i also intend to finish all my homework now that i don't have anyone to distract me. and finish complicated scarf 3. and stop knitting complicated scarves for the moment now that i'm not sharing a room with someone i'm madly attracted to [although....i'm actually over her....that doesn't make me less sad, though] and thus might not need to fidget as furiously.
that all said, i miss my knitting groups :(

knitting in public in poland
knitting in public is one of the few ways of making people smile at you here. people always look amused at me in cafes. the other day i was knitting on break at school. the secretary, who is generally tired of our complaining about anything and everything, was quite amused. then one of the bulgarians from our class came out and was really excited because she used to knit with her mom and her sister and the other night had had a dream about knitting. then various yarn vocabulary came up in class and that teacher was also impressed with Complicated Scarf pt.3.

crazy cat lady
I've always said when i become a crazy cat lady, my schtick would be that all my cats would be handknit. so this is Wonky's wee comrade Slightly Wonky who has been mailed to a friend in canada. i'll probably make myself a matching one....and another one and another one....
this was made with opus 80% acrylic 20% mohair that i got from the market hall in wroclaw.

prague! hug prague!
yes. was in prague last week. it was great. i'm usually there by myself but was with my mother this time so got to go to restaurants and do all the touristey things i couldn't do because they were too expensive.
i went to the kotva department store [near namesti republiky metro-it's the ugly black box of a building] where they have a decent yarn selection. i got some olive green boucle stuff there 2 years ago with the intention of making a sweater then later discovered it wasn't nearly enough and have been looking for that yarn ever since. unfortunately they don't even have it there anymore. but i got other nice stuff including sock yarn which is mysteriously hard to find in poland.
then i went to MarLen [http://www.marlen.cz they don't have an english page, though] at ul. karolina svetle 12 [not open on weekends!] and was consequently spoiled for all other yarn stores ever possibly even romni in toronto.
it's a small company that makes really nice textiles and yarn and things and there was so much nice stuff! including lots and lots and lots of really nice cotton that isn't heavy and unpleasant like most cotton i come across. i couldn't tell what the prices were, there was a scribble on the label that i thought was the price and i was all set to pay 250 kr. for the grey cotton which is probably what it would cost in britain if it existed there but it turned out that scribble was the meterage and all the cotton only cost 55 kr.!! which is absurdly cheap. i got 4 things of the grey cotton which will be some sort of sleeveless shirt dealie, one thing of olive green dk cotton which will be a summer shawl thingy and some black wool of varying textures which i can't describe but it's really cool. and i got to practice my czech with the woman who worked there and another customer who was really impressed by my willingness to knit something out of 700m of dk yarn.
